Migration towards RoHS compliant products with preserved reliability and performance
The EU directive 2002/95/CE restricts the use of some substances, in particular lead, in electronic products as of July 2006.
Our equipment are used for routing, switching, transmission, network management or network security in
telecommunication applications.
There is a risk to consumer safety should these systems fail unexpectedly. It is not yet known, however, how to extrapolate
accelerated test data to predict field performance and this will not be possible until lead-free solders have been in widespread
use for at least five years.
The restriction on lead is of a great importance for PRESCOM, as lead substitutes must not raise long term reliability issues
for electronic boards and modules that PRESCOM produces.
Taking these difficulties into account, the Annex of Directive 2002/95/EC exempts the use of lead in solders for
telecommunication network infrastructure equipment.
The exemption on lead solders will be used as long as the long term reliability of our equipment is fully guaranteed with
alternative solutions. Nevertheless, all the components has been changed with RoHS compliant parts since July 2006.
